This 20th Birthday Cake is elegant, soft, and full of nostalgic flavor. With a tender crumb and creamy vanilla frosting, it's perfect for celebrating big milestones with sweetness and style — whether you prefer minimalist, photo-worthy looks or cozy, homemade charm.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch cake pans with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
Cream butter and sugar together for 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, beating after each. Stir in vanilla and almond extract.
Mix yogurt and milk in a small bowl. Alternate adding dry ingredients and the yogurt-milk mixture into the wet ingredients. Mix just until combined.
Divide the batter between pans. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely before frosting.
To make frosting: Beat butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar. Mix in vanilla and milk. Add food coloring if desired.
Assemble cake by spreading frosting between layers and over the top and sides. Decorate as desired with sprinkles, flowers, or gold flakes.
Notes
This recipe can also be used for cupcakes (makes 12) or a single-layer cake. Adjust baking time accordingly. For a taller cake, double the ingredients and use three layers.
