Equipment

  • Baking Sheets
  • Parchment Paper

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (room temperature) soft and creamy for that perfect texture
  • ⅔ + 3 tblsp cup granulated sugar (divided) sweetness and a lovely coating crunch
  • 2 + 1 tblsp cups all‑purpose flour (spooned & leveled) the structure that keeps them tender
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional) adds warmth and a cozy bakery aroma
  • rainbow sprinkles or nonpareils (optional) for fun pops of colour and crunch

Instructions

  • Step 1: Preheat the oven to 325 °F (163 °C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Step 2: In a mixing bowl, beat the butter and ⅔ cup sugar until creamy and slightly fluffy.
  • Step 3: Add the flour gradually and mix until combined. If using vanilla, add it now.
  • Step 4: Roll dough into approx 1‑inch balls. Roll each ball in the remaining 3 tbsp sugar.
  • Step 5: Press each ball gently with the bottom of a glass until slightly flattened. If using sprinkles, press them into the tops now.
  • Step 6: Bake for 14–16 minutes or until edges show a soft golden hue. Let rest on the sheet for 10–15 minutes before transferring to a rack.
