  • 2 ¼ cups flour Forms the base and structure
  • ½ cup sliced almonds Adds crunch and nuttiness

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  • Prepare a 9×9-inch pan by lining it with foil or parchment paper and lightly spray it with nonstick cooking spray.
  • In a food processor, combine the cold butter, granulated sugar, salt, and flour. Pulse until the mixture comes together into a coarse dough.
  • Take about two-thirds of the dough and press it evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  • Open your can of cherry pie filling and spoon it over the pressed dough, spreading it gently.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the remaining dough with the sliced almonds until crumbly, then sprinkle this mixture evenly over the cherry filling.

Baking

  • Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30-40 minutes until the bars are cooked through and the top is light golden.
  • For a crunchier crust, consider pre-baking the crust for 15-20 minutes before adding the filling and topping.

Notes

Ensure your butter is cold for a flaky texture. Avoid overmixing the dough for best results. Store bars in an airtight container to keep fresh.
