Ingredients

For the Cake

  • 1 15-ounce boxed devil’s food cake mix provides a rich, chocolatey flavor
  • 3 large eggs adds structure and moisture
  • cup vegetable oil contributes moisture and tenderness
  • 1 cup water helps to hydrate the cake mix

For the Topping

  • 1 14-ounce sweetened condensed milk creates a creamy texture
  • 16 ounces caramel topping or sauce adds sweetness and richness
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream for a thick, luxurious topping
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar sweetens and stabilizes the whipped cream
  • 4 Heath Bars chopped (5–6 ounces total) provides a crunchy texture and caramel flavor

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the boxed devil’s food cake mix.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water. Use a whisk or electric mixer to blend everything until it’s well incorporated and smooth.
  • Pour the batter into a 9×13 inch baking pan and ensure it spreads evenly.
  • Place it in the oven and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Soaking and Topping

  • Poke holes throughout the surface of the warm cake using the handle of a wooden spoon.
  • Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the cake and let it soak for about 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Drizzle the caramel topping generously over the cake.
  • In a clean mixing bowl, whip together the heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
  • Spread the whipped cream over the caramel layer of the cake.
  • Sprinkle the chopped Heath Bars over the whipped cream layer.

Notes

Be gentle when mixing the batter to avoid overworking the flour. Allow the cake to cool before adding toppings. Consider using other candy bars or drizzling chocolate sauce as variations.
