Ingredients
  

Cake Batter

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Frosting & Decoration

  • Buttercream frosting for decorating
  • Gel food coloring optional, for pastel aesthetic
  • Fresh flowers or berries for garnish
  • Edible pearls or gold flakes for sparkle
  • Chocolate ganache drizzle optional, for rich finish

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  • Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl. Set aside.
  • In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until pale and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
  • Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the wet mixture, beginning and ending with dry. Mix until just combined.
  • Divide the batter evenly between pans. Smooth the tops and bake for 25–30 minutes or until centers spring back lightly when touched.
  • Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then remove and let cool completely on a wire rack.
  • Frost with buttercream. Apply a crumb coat first, chill, then add your final smooth layer or pipe decorative swirls.
  • Add optional decorations like fresh flowers, berries, sprinkles, or gold flakes. Slice and enjoy!

Notes

To level your cake layers easily, use a serrated knife or cake leveler once cooled. Want to prep ahead? Bake and freeze cake layers up to a month in advance — frost just before the celebration.
