  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour sifted
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 cup milk whole milk preferred
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Optional Add-Ons

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder for chocolate variation
  • 1 tsp espresso powder for bold flavor
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round pans.
  • Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to butter mixture, alternating with milk, until batter is smooth.
  • Divide batter evenly between pans and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks. Cool completely before frosting.
  • Frost with buttercream, cream cheese, or whipped cream. Decorate with chocolate drips, berries, or sprinkles to suit his style.

Notes

For a fun variation, make cupcakes or mini cakes instead of full layers. Cake layers can be baked a day in advance, wrapped tightly, and frosted on the celebration day.
