Ingredients
  

Cake Batter

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour sifted
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk room temperature
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3 eggs room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  • Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Set aside.
  • Cream butter and sugar together with a mixer until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in vanilla extract.
  • Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with flour. Mix until just combined — do not overmix.
  • Divide batter evenly between prepared pans. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto racks to cool completely before frosting and decorating.
