  • Mixing Bowls
  • Electric Mixer
  • Offset Spatula
  • Piping Bags and Tips

Ingredients

Cake Base

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk

Buttercream & Decorations

  • 2 cups unsalted butter softened
  • 6 cups powdered sugar sifted
  • 2-3 tbsp heavy cream or milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • blue gel food coloring light and dark shades for Bluey’s fur
  • black fondant for eyes and nose
  • white fondant for eyes and mouth details

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  • Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  • Whisk dry ingredients in a separate bowl, then add to wet mixture alternately with milk until smooth.
  • Divide batter evenly between pans and bake 30–35 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Cool cakes fully, then level tops with a serrated knife.
  • Make buttercream by beating butter until fluffy, then gradually adding powdered sugar, cream, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Apply a thin crumb coat of buttercream to the cake and chill for 20 minutes.
  • Cover cake with light blue buttercream. Use darker blue frosting to create ears and patches.
  • Shape fondant into eyes, nose, and mouth. Place carefully to complete Bluey’s face. Chill until ready to serve.

Notes

For a fondant-free option, pipe face details with extra buttercream. To add fun, tint cake batter for rainbow layers inside. Bluey cupcakes make a great matching treat for larger parties.
