Ingredients
  

For the cake and custard

  • 1 box Yellow Cake Mix (Plus Box Ingredients) Follow the instructions on the box for preparation.
  • 2 3.4 oz boxes Instant French Vanilla Pudding Mix This will be used for the custard.
  • 4 cups Milk For the custard.
  • 16 oz Cool Whip For mixing with the custard.

For the chocolate ganache

  • 8 oz Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips Used for the ganache topping.
  • 1/2 cup Heavy Cream Heat for making the ganache.
  • 1 tsp Instant Coffee Enhances the chocolate flavor.
  • Pinch Sea Salt To enhance flavors.

Preparation

  • Begin by preparing the yellow cake mix according to the box instructions. Combine the mix with eggs, water, and oil, then mix until smooth.
  • Pour the cake batter into a greased baking pan and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely before cutting.

Making the Custard

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the instant pudding mix and 4 cups of milk until it thickens.
  • Set the custard aside to let it fully set.
  • In a separate bowl, gently fold the Cool Whip into the thickened custard until smooth and creamy.

Making the Ganache

  • In a small saucepan, heat heavy cream over low heat until warm but not boiling.
  • Remove from heat and add the chocolate chips; stir until melted and smooth.

Assembling the Trifle

  • Cut the cooled yellow cake into small pieces and layer half of them at the bottom of a trifle dish.
  • Add a layer of the custard mixture on top, smoothing it out.
  • Repeat with another layer of cake and custard until all ingredients are used.
  • Drizzle the warm chocolate ganache over the top and refrigerate for at least a couple of hours.

Notes

Chill the trifle for flavor melding and easier serving. Serve chilled for best texture.
