Preparation

  • Peel and core the apples, then chop them into small, bite-sized pieces. Place the chopped apples in a mixing bowl.
  • If using, sprinkle the chopped apples with cinnamon and toss gently to coat them evenly.
  • In a clean mixing bowl, combine the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Whisk until medium peaks form.

Assembly

  • Start with a layer of crushed graham crackers or shortbread cookies at the bottom of your trifle dish or individual cups.
  • Add a layer of the chopped apples over the cookie base.
  • Drizzle caramel sauce over the apples, covering them well.
  • Spoon a layer of whipped cream over the caramel and spread it evenly.
  • Repeat the layering process with another layer of cookies, followed by the remaining chopped apples and caramel. Finish with a final layer of whipped cream.
  • If desired, sprinkle any optional toppings over the final layer and drizzle extra caramel sauce.

Chilling

  • Chill the trifle in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

For the best whipped cream, use a cold mixing bowl and whisk. Adjust caramel sauce to taste. Consider layering with chopped nuts or varying apple types for flavor.
