Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour plus extra as needed, for texture
  • 1.5 tsp baking soda for leavening
  • 1 tsp salt for flavor
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh chives for flavor
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh thyme for flavor
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh rosemary for flavor
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh sage for flavor
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese for richness
  • 1.75 cups buttermilk for moisture and tenderness

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir gently until there are no lumps.
  • Add chopped fresh chives, thyme, rosemary, and sage. Mix until combined.
  • Incorporate shredded cheddar cheese into the flour mixture.
  • Slowly pour in buttermilk while mixing until the dough comes together, being cautious not to overmix.
  • Flour your work surface lightly and transfer the dough onto it. Knead gently for about a minute.
  • Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Score the top of the loaf with a sharp knife to help it bake evenly.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
