  • 1 box devil’s food cake, prepared according to package directions Provides a rich, moist base

For the pudding

  • 1 5.9 oz box instant chocolate pudding, prepared according to package directions Adds creaminess and chocolate flavor

For the trifle

  • 3 cups whipped cream or 8 oz cool whip Ensures a light and airy layer
  • 1 21 oz can cherry pie filling Offers moisture and sweetness

Preparation of Ingredients

  • Prepare the devil’s food cake according to the package directions. Bake until a toothpick inserted comes out clean and allow it to cool completely before cutting it into cubes.
  • Prepare the instant chocolate pudding mix according to the package instructions, stirring until thick and creamy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whip the whipped cream or Cool Whip until fluffy with soft peaks.

Assembly

  • Layer half of the chocolate cake cubes at the bottom of a trifle dish.
  • Spread half of the chocolate pudding over the cake cubes evenly.
  • Spoon half of the cherry pie filling over the pudding layer.
  • Add half of the whipped cream on top and spread gently.
  • Repeat the layers with the remaining cake, pudding, cherry filling, and whipped cream.
  • Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour before serving.

Notes

For best results, allow the cake to cool completely before cutting. Chill the mixing bowl and beaters for a fluffier whipped cream layer. Ensure even layering.
