Preparation

  • Start by melting the salted butter in a mixing bowl until it’s completely liquid.
  • Add the packed dark brown sugar to the melted butter and whisk them together until the mixture is thick.
  • Crack in the egg, pour in the vanilla extract, and whisk until well combined and smooth.
  • Measure out the all-purpose flour and add it to the bowl along with the baking powder and salt. Stir gently with a spatula until just combined.
  • Fold in your choice of mix-ins until evenly distributed.
  • Pour the batter into a greased baking pan and spread it evenly.
  • Bake until golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Notes

Cool completely before cutting to help them hold their shape. Store in an airtight container to keep them fresh.
