  • 1 batch Sourdough pastry dough For structure and flavor
  • 8 oz Cream cheese Richness and creaminess
  • 1/2 cup Jam Sweetness and moisture, flavor your choice
  • 1 large Egg For binding and richness
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar Sweetness and texture

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Roll out the sourdough pastry dough on a lightly floured surface until it’s about ¼ inch thick.
  • Cut the rolled dough into approximately 4-inch squares or rectangles.
  • In a bowl, combine cream cheese with powdered sugar and whisk until smooth.
  • Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each dough piece.
  • Add a dollop of jam on top of the cream cheese filling.
  • Fold the corners of the pastry squares toward the center to enclose the filling and pinch edges firmly.
  • Arrange the filled pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Brush the tops of the pastries with a whisked egg.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and flaky.
  • Once baked, allow the pastries to cool slightly on the baking sheet.
  • Dust with additional powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Serve the pastries warm for the best experience. Experiment with different jams and fillings for variety. Store leftovers at room temperature for up to two days or refrigerate for about four days. They can also be frozen for up to a month.
