Ingredients
  

Cake Base

  • 1 chocolate cake 9×13-inch, baked and cut into 1-inch cubes

Pudding Layer

  • 2 cups chocolate pudding prepared and cooled

Cherry Filling

  • 1 can cherry pie filling or use homemade, cooled
  • 0.25 cup cherry liqueur Kirsch or cherry brandy, or cherry juice for non-alcoholic version

Whipped Cream

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream cold
  • 3 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Garnish

  • fresh cherries for topping
  • shaved chocolate or sprinkles for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the chocolate cake according to package or recipe directions. Cool completely and cut into 1-inch cubes.
  • Make chocolate pudding and let it cool until thick and glossy.
  • Whip the cold heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.
  • Stir the cherry pie filling gently to ensure even spreading. Prepare cherry liqueur or juice for drizzling.
  • Layer half of the cake cubes into a trifle bowl. Drizzle with half the liqueur. Add half the pudding, half the cherry filling, and a layer of whipped cream. Repeat layers and finish with whipped cream.
  • Chill trifle for at least 1 hour or overnight. Before serving, garnish with fresh cherries and shaved chocolate.

Notes

This make-ahead trifle is perfect for gatherings. Chill well to help the layers set, and use a clear glass dish for the most impressive presentation.
