Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Baking tray
  • Lollipop sticks
  • Microwave-safe bowl
  • Styrofoam block or cake pop stand

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 box cake mix any flavor
  • eggs, oil, and water as required by cake mix instructions
  • 0.5 cup frosting
  • 12 oz candy melts or chocolate melted, for coating
  • 25 lollipop sticks
  • festive sprinkles or decorations

Instructions

  • Prepare the cake according to box instructions. Allow it to cool completely.
  • Crumble the cooled cake into fine crumbs using your hands or a fork.
  • Add frosting a little at a time and mix until it forms a dough-like texture that holds together.
  • Roll into 1½-inch balls and place them on a parchment-lined tray.
  • Melt a small amount of candy melts. Dip each stick into the melt and insert halfway into a cake ball. Chill for 15 minutes.
  • Melt the rest of the candy melts in a deep container. Dip each cake pop in one motion and tap off excess coating.
  • Immediately decorate with sprinkles, peppermint, or edible glitter. Stand upright in Styrofoam to set.

Notes

For smoother dipping, thin the candy melts with a bit of shortening. Let dipped pops dry completely before wrapping or storing.
