Ingredients

Brownie Base

  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (adds richness)
  • 1 cup sugar (sweetens and contributes to texture)
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for chocolate flavor)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (enhances sweetness)
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring (for color)
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt (balances sweetness)
  • 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar (helps with leavening)
  • 2 large eggs (binds ingredients)
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour (provides structure)

Cream Cheese Filling

  • 1 (8-oz.) package cream cheese, softened (creamy filling)
  • 3 tablespoons sugar (sweetens the cream cheese layer)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (flavor enhancement)
  • 1 large egg yolk (adds richness to the filling)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350ºF and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, greasing the paper with butter.
  • In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, red food coloring, and salt, stirring until you have a smooth batter.
  • Stir in the white vinegar until fully incorporated.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs and then blend them into the brownie batter.
  • Gently fold in the flour until no streaks remain.
  • Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, reserving ¼ cup for the topping.

Cream Cheese Layer

  • In a mixing bowl, blend the softened cream cheese, sugar, vanilla extract, and egg yolk until smooth.
  • Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the brownie batter, ensuring it covers the entire surface.
  • Dollop the reserved brownie batter over the cream cheese layer and use a knife or toothpick to swirl the two mixtures gently together.

Baking

  • Bake the brownies for about 30 minutes, or until the top is set and a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before lifting them out using the parchment paper to slice.

Notes

For best results, allow cream cheese to reach room temperature before blending. Store leftovers in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
