Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1.5 cups mixed dried fruit raisins, cranberries, apricots, or candied cherries
  • 1 cup nuts chopped pecans or walnuts

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Cream butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir into the butter mixture until just combined.
  • Fold in dried fruits and nuts.
  • Drop spoonfuls of dough onto baking sheet. Bake 10–12 minutes, until edges are golden.
  • Cool on wire racks before serving or storing.

Notes

Add orange zest or a splash of brandy for festive flavor. Swap nuts or dried fruits to fit your taste. Store in an airtight tin for up to a week or freeze for 2 months.
