Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter adds moisture
  • ½ cup dark brown sugar, packed provides deep flavor
  • ½ cup granulated sugar balances sweetness
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature, helps with structure
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract enhances flavor
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour gives structure
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder adds chocolate richness
  • ¼ teaspoon salt balances sweetness
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda helps with rising
  • ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips or chocolate chunks optional, adds extra chocolate flavor

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  • Line the bottom and sides of an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, melt the unsalted butter and whisk in the dark brown sugar and granulated sugar until well combined.
  • Add the eggs and vanilla extract, whisking until fully incorporated.
  • Gradually mix in the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking soda until fully combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips or chunks if using.

Baking

  • Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. To check for doneness, insert a skewer into the center; it should come out clean with a few wet crumbs.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan before slicing into squares.

Notes

For best results, ensure your eggs are at room temperature and do not overmix the batter. Let brownies cool completely before cutting.
