Ingredients

For the Brownies

  • 200 g unsalted butter adds moisture
  • 1 1/4 cups dark chocolate chips or melts provides rich chocolate flavor
  • 1 cup loosely packed brown sugar contributes sweetness and moisture
  • 3 large eggs, lightly beaten binds ingredients together
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract enhances flavor
  • 1/2 cup plain flour (all-purpose flour) provides structure
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder, sifted boosts chocolate richness
  • 1 pinch salt balances sweetness
  • 180 g dark chocolate chips (optional) adds extra chocolate chunks

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C/350°F. Grease a 20cm/8" square tin and line the bottom with baking paper.
  • In a heatproof bowl, melt together the unsalted butter and dark chocolate chips in the microwave, stirring periodically until glossy and creamy.
  • Stir in the loosely packed brown sugar and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Add the lightly beaten eggs and mix until the batter is smooth and well-blended.
  • Gradually add the sifted plain flour, cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt. Mix gently until the batter is smooth.
  • Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 24-32 minutes. A toothpick should come out with a few moist crumbs when done.
  • Let the brownies cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before removing them and allowing them to cool on a wire rack for at least 20 minutes.
  • For neat slices, refrigerate the brownies before cutting.

Notes

These fudgy brownies are perfect for a variety of occasions, from breakfast to dessert. Store in an airtight container for up to three days at room temperature or refrigerate for about a week.
