Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a heart-shaped pan and dust lightly with flour.
  • Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
  • Cream butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  • Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk, starting and ending with the dry. Mix gently until combined.
  • Add pink food coloring if desired and stir until color is even.
  • Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool the cake completely on a wire rack before frosting.
  • For buttercream, beat powdered sugar with heavy cream until smooth and fluffy. Add coloring if desired.
  • Frost the cooled cake evenly, decorate with sprinkles or pearls, and enjoy your charming heart-shaped masterpiece.
