  • 1 cup butter, melted and slightly cooled Soft, melted butter aids in achieving a fudgy texture.
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs Added one at a time.
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Sifted.
  • 1 cup Dutch-processed or unsweetened cocoa powder Sifted.
  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder Optional.
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 ¼ cups chopped chocolate, divided Use good-quality chocolate for better flavor.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Spray a 9×13" baking pan with nonstick spray and line it with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter with both sugars and whisk until dissolved.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, along with the vanilla extract, whisk until smooth.
  • Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and optional espresso powder, gently stir until just combined.
  • Fold in 1 cup of the chopped chocolate, then spread the batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle remaining chocolate on top.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes, until brownies are just set. Check for doneness.

Cooling and Serving

  • Allow brownies to cool in the pan to room temperature before lifting out with the parchment paper.
  • Cut into squares and enjoy your fudgy brownies.

Notes

To elevate flavors, serve warm with vanilla ice cream or with fresh berries. Brownies can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
