Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine the sliced peaches with 1 cup of granulated sugar, water, and lemon juice. Stir gently to coat the peaches evenly and let sit for about 10 minutes.
  • Melt the butter in a baking dish by placing it in the preheated oven.

Batter Preparation

  • In another bowl, mix together the flour, 1 cup of sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually stir in the milk and vanilla extract until just combined. Avoid overmixing.

Assembly and Baking

  • Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish. Do not stir.
  • Spoon the peach mixture over the batter, including any juice that has formed. Do not stir.
  • Sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg over the top.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the peaches are bubbling.

Notes

Ensure peaches are ripe for the best flavor and sweetness. Allow the cobbler to cool slightly before serving to help it set. This dish pairs well with ice cream or whipped cream for added flavor.
