  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract adds nutty flavor

For the Icing

  • 1 cup powdered sugar for the icing
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract flavor boost
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk to reach desired icing consistency

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Cut in the cubed butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in the lightly beaten egg until well incorporated.
  • In another bowl, combine the diced peaches, granulated sugar, cornstarch, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, lemon juice, and almond extract.

Assembly and Baking

  • Grease a baking dish and spread half of the crumble mixture in the bottom.
  • Pour the peach mixture over the crumble base.
  • Sprinkle the remaining crumble mixture over the peach filling.
  • Bake in the oven for 30-35 minutes until the top is golden and the filling is bubbly.
  • Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.

Icing

  • Prepare the icing by mixing the powdered sugar, almond extract, and milk until smooth.
  • Drizzle the icing over the cooled bars.

Notes

For best results, ensure butter is cold when cutting into the flour for a flakier texture. Adjust spice levels to taste.
