  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt Enhances flavor.
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder Helps with lifting.
  • ½ cup dark chocolate chips or chunks Adds pockets of gooey chocolate.

Preparation

  • Begin by melting the unsalted butter in a mixing bowl.
  • Add the granulated sugar and packed brown sugar to the melted butter and mix until well combined.
  • Crack the two large eggs into the bowl and whisk until the mixture is smooth.
  • Stir in the sourdough starter and vanilla extract, whisking until well blended.
  • In a separate bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, folding gently with a spatula.
  • Fold in the dark chocolate chips or chunks carefully.

Baking

  • Pour the brownie batter into a greased or lined 9x9 inch baking pan.
  • Spread the batter evenly and bake in a preheated oven until the edges are set and the center is slightly soft.
  • Allow to cool in the pan before cutting.
