Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9x13 inch baking pan by greasing it.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon. Whisk until well mixed.
  • In another bowl, cream together the softened butter with both the granulated and brown sugars for about 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  • Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a rubber spatula until just incorporated.
  • Fold in the chopped apples until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  • Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan and sprinkle the cinnamon sugar over the top.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35–40 minutes, or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before slicing them into squares.
  • Optional: Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature butter and ensure apple chunks are finely chopped. These bars can be stored in an airtight container for up to three days, or in the refrigerator for about a week.
