Sourdough Coffee Cake

Ingredients
  

Cake Base

  • 3/4 cup butter, melted adds moisture
  • 1 cup brown sugar sweetness and depth
  • 1 cup sugar sweetness
  • 3 large eggs binding and structure
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract flavor enhancement
  • 1/2 cup sourdough starter tangy flavor, moisture
  • 1 1/2 cups milk moisture
  • 1 teaspoon salt balances flavors
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour structure

Cinnamon-Sugar Mixture

  • 3 tablespoons cinnamon warm, aromatic flavor
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar additional sweetness and moisture

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 teaspoons baking soda leavening agent
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour first portion for mixing

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven and prepare your baking pan with a light coating of butter or oil.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, and sugar until well combined.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Mix in vanilla extract and sourdough starter until well blended.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, salt, baking soda, and 1 cup of flour until combined.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Fold in the remaining 2 cups of flour using a spatula.
  • Combine cinnamon and remaining brown sugar in a small bowl.

Assembly and Baking

  • Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking pan and sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top.
  • Add the remaining batter on top and sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  • Bake until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool in the pan before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

For best results, ensure all ingredients are at room temperature and avoid overmixing the batter.
