Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 ⅓ cup all-purpose flour adds structure
  • 1 tsp salt enhances flavor
  • 1 cup dutch-processed cocoa powder provides rich chocolate flavor

Wet Ingredients

  • 6 oz unsweetened chocolate, chopped creates a deep, fudgy texture
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cubed adds moisture and richness
  • cup vegetable oil contributes to moistness
  • 3 cups granulated sugar, divided in half sweetens and helps with texture
  • 4 large eggs binds ingredients and adds moisture
  • 2 large egg yolks increases richness
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract adds warmth and depth of flavor

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (180ºC). Prepare the pan by using non-stick spray or parchment paper to line the sides and bottom of a 9x9-inch metal pan.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and Dutch-processed cocoa powder. Whisk together until well mixed, ensuring there are no lumps.

Melting Chocolate

  • In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the chopped unsweetened chocolate, cubed butter, and 1 ½ cups granulated sugar. Stir occasionally for about 5 minutes until fully melted and smooth.

Mixing

  • In a stand mixer or with a hand mixer, combine the remaining 1 ½ cups of granulated sugar, the eggs, and egg yolks with the melted chocolate mixture. Beat for 3 minutes until lightened in color and doubled in volume.
  • Add the vegetable oil and vanilla extract to the mixing bowl, mixing on low speed until combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 38-45 minutes. Look for a slight crack on top and a soft center.
  • Allow to set for at least 4 hours before cutting. Waiting overnight is even better.

Notes

To enhance your brownies, serve them warm with coffee or tea, or drizzle with caramel or chocolate sauce. They can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
